Actually enjoyed this, much to my surprise.
Great price especially since I go to school online full-time and have to pay out of pocket for any physical book I want.
I got this for a college course, and couldn't have been happier. I'm new to astrology, and this book was a great introduction to the complex concepts it covered.
Had to get this for an astronomy class, although I used it only a handful of times. It was in good shape when I got it used and had a lot of resources in the book.
It's brand new. The book is amazing. Also the book is very useful for the course I take. Really enjoy reading the book.
The content of this book has all the basics and general material necessary for one taking or planning to take an Astronomy course in college. I am currently a freshman in college and my professor requested that the class should purchase this book for the material that would be covered in one semester. It has a large amount of useful key terms, nicely presented visuals, and easy to read material. Using this book for ASTR 122 - Stars & Galaxies.
Sadly enough, the college campus was selling this book for nearly $90 at a used price but I was able to get it for $50 on . Now when I look, I am seeing vendors selling it used for $30! It's nice to order books new but when prices are ridiculously high for paper, it makes sense to buy paper that was used by someone else.
As useful as the book is, I can relate to another reviewer myself and say that I haven't actually used this book very often. The professor seems to provide all the necessary lecture power points online and constantly provides new learning material on virtual homework assignments making this book nearly useless and close enough to a "dust" collector. Don't get me wrong, I have read the book a good few hours or so but besides that, on a scale of 1-10 being least and most important to have for the course, I would have to say 2/10.
The professor made it sound like we need the book no matter what but I have managed nearly 8 weeks in the course without opening the book rather the first 2 weeks I actually looked because college life was a fresh exploring "experience".
To finish up, the book is great! Plenty of material and easy to comprehend text. I highly recommend purchasing a used copy to save money or even rent the book for $20 a semester. But ultimately, don't buy the book at all until your first 2-4 weeks in the course (Maybe even 2nd week). After nearly a month of the course, you can judge a decision on how "important" the book is.
If you are playing on getting the newest one, don't. They are the same exact book! Save your money and buy this one!!
