Where to even begin? I'm usually very...optimistic. I can almost always find a silver lining in all things, but I'm finding it difficult with this one. I've been on a winning streak with great romances featuring Asian men and black women (e.g., "No Ordinary Love" by Kenya Wright; Books 1 & 3 of the Free Falling series by Raven St. Pierre; "The Good, the Bad and the Naughty" by Lena Matthews; and even Eternally I Do by Ms. McCarver herself), but this...this killed it for me.**POSSIBLE SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT**
First of all, this book couldn't decide what it wanted to be: a multicultural romance/drama or a multicultural paranormal romance. It started off well. It was smart, engaging, and there was a nice build to the leads romantic relationship, then we introduced this strange paranormal storyline that wasn't necessary in the first place. Then, to make matters worse (and just a little bit more out of left field) we back track and try to explain it away.
Secondly, the ending. Ummm...what? Everyone is quick to forgive a man who made lying, manipulation and blackmail an art, who could possibly be considered a murderer, and who drugged and kidnapped a pregnant woman? No. Just no. There's no forgiving that so easily, especially 15 minutes into said kidnapping. You don't invite the guy to Sunday brunch to play with the baby. You lock up his psychotic butt and forgive him while he serves his time.
I think the setting for this story was La-La land. It definitely wasn't set in reality.
Lastly, the dialog, it was contrite. I didn't believe it at all. That's all I have to say about that.
**POSSIBLE SPOILERS DONE**
By the fifth chapter, I had packed it in, opting to grin and bear it so I wouldn't feel like I had wasted $4.99 by giving up completely, but alas, I still feel like my money was wasted.
And I highly HIGHLY recommended that Ms. McCarver invest in a professional proofreader. I was able to overlook the glaring grammatical mistakes in "Eternally I Do" because the story was captivating and Hide was the sexy vampire hero I've been searching for all my life. But Kane...no. You don't get a pass. Get it together.
I don't think I'll be reading anymore of Ms. McCarver's novels. She seems like a hit or miss kind of author. And if the rest of her novels are anything like this one...yeah, I'll definitely pass.

This book needs to be written! Where is the editor? I see why the writer used a pen name, because i wouldn't sign my name to this either. The sex scenes are boring, the love story was weird & it looks the writer banged it over a weekend.
Spoilers ahead!
I can see where the author was trying to go, but the execution was terrible and scattered. Around the 3rd chapter things start getting strange. I had no clue what was going on. For one thing, she should've stuck with Charlie`s and Jason's relationship and his suicide. I had no clue why he did it. And what's up with that whole weird dreams subplot? That makes no sense! Actually Blue's Diary sounds like a more interesting book. A jaded Japanese rock star`s rise to sucess and ultimate self destruction would've been much better.
So, i give this book 2 stars. Don't buy it! My 5 year old cousin could write a better story!
I was torn between giving this book five stars or one. Finally. A book that tackles the Asian male/Black female relationship from a realistic point of view, all without compromising a real world view into the world of celebrity. A budding relationship between an older woman and younger man just adds to the twist. The storyline is great and the pacing pretty okay. BUT BE FOREWARNED - THIS IS NOT A SMOOTH READ BY ANY MEANS. Before purchasing this book, I read through most of the reviews, many of which complained about the poor editing. I thought, surely, it can't be that bad. And unless you're an English scholar, who cares? I was wrong. The book is filled with a train wreck of sentences with no punctuation and, worse yet, sentences that abruptly stop midway through, leaving thoughts completely unfinished. And I shudder thinking about the slew of words so badly misspelled, I could hardly figure out what they could actually be! It slowed my reading tremendously. It's nuts! Did the author submit it this way? Does she not have an editor? And what about the publisher? A good publisher would be ashamed to put their stamp on it. I sense that this book's obviously pre-mature release was due to greed - a quick attempt of all parties involved to capitalize on such a rare subject matter. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 1 is because I enjoyed the story itself. For the author's sake and genuine success, I only wish it could be reprinted AFTER a hard edit job. I will keep an eye open for her future works.
I really have no idea WHY I like this novella. In terms of execution, it ranks right up there with the terribleness that is Twilight and Fifty Shade of Gray (only they had copy editors to catch the more egregious errors). What McCarver does manage is to create interesting, sexy characters, AND she makes me interested in their story as individuals and as a couple.
Okay, so I've been on this interracial romance kick since my BFF's sister got me hooked on kdramas and then recommended J-Pop Love Song. It defies logic. I wouldn't accept the quality of the execution if I were to walk into a brick and mortar store and buy a book, but has all of these cracktastic self-published e-books for at low, low prices, so I buy them. I am shamed.
J-Pop Love Song is one of total crack! Despite the grammar errors and plot inconsistencies (It is DESPERATELY in need of an editor and it could easily be cleaned up), I really liked this! It gets a little convoluted and way cheesy in the end, but it's my crack. I read it and loved it. I'm still baffled by exactly why. Of course, it's also insanely refreshing to read an uncommon pairing.
Still, yeah ... I kinda loves it, precious.
